Melissa Broeck grew up in Grand Rapids, MI. She graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design with a BFA in furniture and jewelry design. Coming from a family of makers, she spent her formative years using sewing machines, looms, torches, and other heavy machinery. Today she makes things out of metal, enamel, glass, fiber, and wood. She bases her imagery on her love of natural forms, including microscopic landscapes and the cell structures of fungus, plants, and animals.
