Student Materials: Please bring the following: • Comfortable eye and ear protection (the studio can also provide loaners) • Long pants and closed-toe shoes to be worn in the shop • Apron Estimated Materials Fee Paid to Instructor: $450
School Materials: Please specify if specific types are needed... - PC7 Epoxy and epoxy clay - Sandpaper / 120-220 grit - Foam brushes - Finish / Vermont Natural Coatings Polywhey Clear Outdoor Finish (one gallon) - All metal parts for the frame (e.g. head tube, bottom bracket, rear dropouts and seat tube sleeve) - Bamboo either locally sourced or from CA
Instructor Materials: I will provide 3-5 jigs (depending on class size: max size 5) for making the bamboo bicycle frames. I will also provide the miter jig for cutting the bamboo poles. A demo bamboo bicycle will be on display in class for instructional purposes. A folding work table will also be supplied for demo purposes with a demo jig setup.
Equipment Needs: Woodworking Studio Includes access to spindle sander, drills and flat level tables for each supplied bicycle frame jig.

Mason Cooley is a North Carolina-based furniture builder and sculptor from southern California. He holds both an MFA and a BFA and has taught at various art, design, and craft schools across the country for over a decade. Mason currently takes orders on custom furniture and enjoys exploring the creative relationship between mobility and making, like in his bamboo bicycle building workshops.
