Student Materials: Please bring: ESTIMATED MATERIALS FEE: $_50___ - A journal for note taking - 4 curved (or straight) binding needles measuring 1.5", 2" or 3" (all are fine sizes.) If you cannot find curved needles, often called upholstery needles, straight binding needles will work too. -A medium sized L-square (around 12''x8'' with a 90 degree angle). Can be found in hardware stores. -A "pin tool" (slender pointed awl) found in ceramics sections of craft supply shops. (Not a wood working awl, these are two big.) A pin tool's point has the same dimension all the way down the shaft, unlike a wood working awl. - An array of favorite photos, buttons, decorative paper scraps, and images. The studio is equipped with basic tools listed below, but feel free to bring your own (labeled with your name or initials): - Pin tool or slender pointed awl. These are often found in the ceramics section of craft supply shops (even the smallest of awls for woodworking is too large). - Bone folder (bone or Teflon) - Scissors - X-Acto knife with extra blades (the studio has break-off knives) - Medium-sized, self-healing cutting mat (found with quilting supplies) - Mechanical Pencil -White rubber eraser

Equipment Needs: Tables & chairs - Book Arts studio standard equipment (see inventory) - Book Arts tool kits -- bone folders, steel awls, scissors, break-off knives, etc. -- and standard supplies such as metal rulers, brayers, cutting mats, and weights. (In the Student Materials list, you may suggest that students bring their own, if they have and can transport. All personal tools should be labeled with name or initials.) - Paper guillotine - Paper shear

Annie Fain Barralon is a native of the crafts and music/dance community of Brasstown and the Folk School's former Music & Dance Coordinator. She teaches a variety of classes at the school including book arts, clawhammer banjo, and several styles of dance: Appalachian clogging, English waltz clog, Northwest Morris, and Bal Folk (learned when she married into a French family). Annie Fain plays banjo and banjo uke for the all-woman string band, Blue Eyed Girl, and has danced with both Loafers Glory Clog Morris and the Green Grass Cloggers. She sells her handmade books, gift cards, and original watercolors regionally and is a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
