Student Materials: Please bring the following: - 1 or 2 terrycloth old hand towels - A magnifying device, such as an OptiVISOR or reading glasses, may be helpful for detail work. - Safety glasses. (If you wear glasses, try 3M Eyeglass Protectors, #47030, that fit comfortably over glasses -- available at building-supply stores.) - It is recommended to use a particle dust mask N95 or KN95 WITHOUT a plastic filter on the front when using a polisher and grinder in the Jewelry studio. This type of mask can be purchased from Rio Grande (3M Particulate Respirator, #201598) (1-800-545-6566 or www.riogrande.com), or you may also find them at your local hardware store, or on Amazon. -A sturdy work apron -Reliable close-toed shoes -Sketch Book -Pens/Pencil -Water Bottle -Source materials that can provide idea inspiration, anything aesthetically pleasing or has personal significance. For example fabric, collected seashells, organic matter from your yard, family postcards, wooden objects, etc. For those who are traveling and do not wish to bring physical items, photographs or drawings will work perfectly. -Containers to hold any leftover materials, projects in progress, or completed works the students wish to bring home ESTIMATED MATERIALS FEE: $45-75, depending on price of metals and consumables at time of workshop. Some materials may be purchased as needed directly from the instructor and will be measured and priced accordingly.

Demonstrations will include how to design, saw, solder, sand, polish, and texture precious metals. Leave with a great foundation to build upon for future endeavors in the metal arts.

Ashley Gilreath graduated from the metal design program at East Carolina University and has been an Artist-In-Residence at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts (TN), Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, and the Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft (NC). She has exhibited at the Museum of Arts and Design, Fuller Craft Museum, and The Metals Museum, and has been published by Lark Books and American Craft Magazine. She continues to teach workshops in both metalsmithing and enameling at craft schools around the country. Ashley's artwork explores the hidden narratives of everyday objects, and our relationships with heirlooms as artifacts of genealogical history.
