Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Notebook/ sketchbook & pencil/pen - Embroidery scissors - Embroidery needles (sizes 5-10) - Embroidery hoops (4 inch, 6 inch, and/or 8 inch) - Embroidery frame/stand if you have one (seat frame or table clamp) - Magnification (if needed for detail work) Instructor will provide fabric and embroidery materials. INSTRUCTOR'S MATERIALS FEE: $45-60

Discover the fundamentals of goldwork, the traditional art of hand embroidering with metal threads and wires. Learn about the essential embroidery techniques, stitches, tools, and materials used in goldwork as well as its historic roots and contemporary applications. Additional topics will include an introduction to hand embroidery basics, how to create your own goldwork design, and how to combine goldwork with other embroidery materials and processes. All levels welcome.

Carly Owens Weiss is an artist based in Boulder, CO. She received her BAD in Art + Design from North Carolina State University and studied crewelwork and goldwork hand embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework in the United Kingdom. In her current work, Carly uses hand embroidery, painting and soft sculpture to explore narrative and identity through a personal and symbolic lens. Carly’s work has been featured in numerous publications including Architectural Digest (Germany), Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, BUST Magazine and Frankie Magazine. Her past exhibitions include the Museum of Arts and Design (New York, NY), the Bomb Factory Arts Foundation (London, UK), Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Omaha, NE) and BMoCA (Boulder, CO). She recently completed residencies at Vermont Studio Center (full fellowship) and John C. Campbell Folk School (2023). Carly was a finalist for the international Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery (London, UK) in 2017.
