Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Old towel to protect your lap - The studio has basketry tool kits, but if you have your own tools and wish to use them, feel free to bring (label with your name or initials). ESTIMATED MATERIALS FEE: $90. Will vary depending on how many items you complete.

School Fee & Materials: tools available already in rock room.

Instructor Materials: All materials and tools to complete your brooms and baskets, tying boxes for making the brooms.

Equipment Needs: Rock Room - Tables, chairs and access to water - Basketry tool kits - Outdoor space with access to water is available

Description

Here is your chance to try both broom making and basket weaving! Make a cobwebber out of raw broomcorn and a turkey wing or angel whisk from processed broomcorn. Then, on to baskets to weave a melon-style rib basket and a flat reed market basket. With these first projects under your belt, spend the rest of the week exploring more broom or basket options in the area of your choice.

Bev Larson was introduced to broom making in 2010 and immediately fell in love. Over time, her styles and creativity have evolved and her passion continues to flourish. Bev feels privileged to share her love of broom making by routinely teaching at basket retreats and fiber shows such as the Michigan Fiber Festival; Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival; in Indiana at The Fiber Event, Greencastle and the Stateline Friends Weaving Retreat; SouthEastern Animal Fiber Fair in North Carolina; and Woven Together in Western Kentucky. Bev has also taught on the Basket Weaving Cruise in the Caribbean. She is honored to be an Indiana Artisan as designated by the State of Indiana.
