Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Dust mask, eye protection, and ear protection - Long pants and closed-toe shoes to be worn in the shop - Any hand tools you own and would like to use (planes, saws, rasps, chisels, marking gauge, etc.)

School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $80 -Glue -Sandpaper -Finish - Hock tools 1 3/4" plane blade assembly - persimmon lumber

Instructor Materials: -Brazilian hardwood -Satoru Nakumo plane blades - Personal tools to be shared with the students, like wooden planes, special rasps, etc.

Equipment Needs: - Workbenches & stools - Access to studio's tools

Used for making boards flat and square, adjusting joinery, and even finishing, planes offer an efficient and intimate connection to the wood. Examine what makes a plane work well, from construction to setup and sharpening to dealing with difficult grain. Leave with two planes made by yourself to fit your hands! All Levels welcome. $

Thiago Endrigo Silva was born in Brazil. After training to be a clinical psychologist he decided to change paths to become a craftsman, devoting himself to woodworking. This pursuit led him to work restoring historic pipe organs, building harpsichords, guitars, furniture and tools. When not teaching children or adults to work wood in his shop or schools, he'll be either making chairs or wooden hand planes.
