Student Materials: Please bring the following: NOTE: Items important for your safety. -Wear closed-toe shoes only. -No loose, flowing clothing. -Long hair must be tied back. -No jewelry on hands/arms while turning. -Safety glasses &/or face shields are to be worn while turning. These are available at each turning station, or you may bring your own. -Dust masks are available in the studio -- or if you prefer, bring your own dust shield. -Ear plugs are also available in the studio -- or bring your own hearing protection of choice. TOOLS: * Each turning station has a PowerMatic 3520C lathe, large/small chucks, and all necessary lathe equipment. Student tool rolls are available for your use. If you prefer, you may bring your own. (Label all personal tools with your name or initials.)
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $10 Re: Green wood -- Logs will be 10" to 12" in diameter by 6 ft. long. We do not carry anything larger. Diameters of 6" to 8" can be had, but should be requested 4 weeks before class. Wood variety includes maple, cherry, sassafras, sourwood, sycamore, etc. No Walnut, as many are allergic to the dust. Please tell us how many logs you would require for 8 students. Re: Dry wood -- Only 2x12" poplar is standardly available -- stacked on the floor in the supply room. Some 3x3x30" maple/cherry is available. If you require other dry wood, you will need to bring it and charge a material fee to students. Glue, sandpaper, & finish are provided.
Instructor Materials: All turning material, finishes and any specialty tools for turning the following: • Weed Pots & Small Vases • Wooden Bowls • Wood Stem Wine Glasses • Hummingbird House

Begin the week mastering the basics with weed pots and small vases, then move on to crafting wooden bowls and explore further with wood stem wine glasses and hummingbird houses. Continue with projects of your choice, enhancing your skills and broadening your creative expression. Both beginner and intermediate students are welcome. $

Kevin Felderhoff was born and raised in Muenster, TX and earned a BS of Industrial Technology with an emphasis in Construction Management from Texas State University in San Marcos. He currently lives in Brevard, NC, where he turns and designs furniture for a hobby. Kevin participates in numerous exhibitions and demonstrations and has published two articles in the AAW Journal – “A Commemorative Urn – for a Special Friend” & “A Bark-edged Flying-wing Vase." Kevin is a Member of the AAW, Golden Triangle Woodturners & Carolina Mountain Woodturners (board member).
