Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Set of basic clay-working tools (available at pottery supply companies or the Folk School Craft Shop). Please label personal tools with your name or initials. - 2-3 work towels - Work apron, if desired, or clothes you can get dirty - Dust mask for mixing glazes - Packing material to transport your pieces home -Container to carry home scrap clay - Water bottle - Xacto knife - Paint brushes (calligraphy and hake brushes are suggested, but any brush is great) ESTIMATED ADDITIONAL MATERIALS FEE: $30-90 (Clay at $30 per bag for bisque firing classes only)

Description

Create narrative pots using handbuilding techniques such as slab building, coiling, pinching, and bisque molds. Develop the storry of your critter by attaching sculptural elements that extend off the surface of the form. Paint and carve on the surface building up colorful imagery and patterns through layers of underglaze, slip, and transfers. Learn strategies to develop ideas and build confidence in drawing on clay. Approach making with playfulness and curiosity! Bisque fire as time allows.

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Lynne Hobaica received her BFA from Syracuse University and later completed her MFA in Conceptual Ceramic Sculpture at the University of Art and Design in Linz, Austria. Lynne has exhibited work in the US and abroad and participated in national and international residencies including the McKnight Residency at Northern Clay Center, Ceramica Perugia in Italy, Pottery Northwest, Watershed and more. She has taught workshops across the US at Penland, Arrowmont, Touchstone Center for Craft, Eye of the Dog Art Center, and much more. She currently lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains where she shares a home and studio with her partner, Rickie Barnett and their sweet pup, Smokey.
