Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Set of basic clay-working tools (available at pottery supply companies or the Folk School Craft Shop). Please label personal tools with your name or initials. - wooden anvil - wooden paddle - 2-3 work towels - Work apron, if desired, or clothes you can get dirty - Dust mask for mixing glazes - Packing material to transport your pieces home -Container to carry home scrap clay - Water bottle Estimated number of bags of clay per student: 4-6 ESTIMATED ADDITIONAL MATERIALS FEE: $100-150 (Clay at $25 per bag, no glazing or firing)

Inform and enliven the conversation with open discussion and focus on finding the best technique for your design ideas. Best for intermediate to advanced students who want to make large pieces. No firing will take place in this process-oriented class. $

David Stuempfle has worked and exhibited across U.S., Europe and Asia. He has been a U.S./Japan Creative Artists Fellowship recipient, and an NEA/Central and Eastern Europe Visual Arts Fellowship recipient. He has taught at Penland School of Crafts, the Bascom Center for Visual Arts and numerous universities and colleges. His work is included in the collections of the Mint Museum of Craft and Design, the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park Museum (Japan), the Museum of American Ceramic Art, the Mobile Museum of Art, the Fuller Craft Museum, the Asheville Museum of Art, and the Museum of International Folk Art, among others.
