Student Materials: Please bring the following: -safety glasses -protective gloves -closed toe shoes -N95 mask or equivalent -apron -The folk school has basic glass tool kits available for use during class. If you bring your favorite glass cutting tools, please label them with your name.

The color and thickness of wine bottles make them a great–and free!–medium for all sorts of recycled-art projects. As a bonus, turning bottles into art keeps them out of landfills. Learn to cut glass on a wet saw, drill holes in glass on a drill press, and melt glass in a kiln. You’ll be amazed at the variety of fun and artistic pieces you can create. Think outside the bottle!

Steve I. Smith left the manufacturing business 15 years ago to pursue a less stressful life in the country. He and his photographer wife, Sally, spend their days on their farm in central Alabama. For the past decade, Steve has honed his skills and techniques as a glass artist specializing in recycled glass, primarily wine bottles. Today he and Sally enjoy attending art & craft shows and marketing their wares through retail shops and galleries.
