Studio/Location: Wet Room

Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Comfortable clothes & shoes that you don't mind getting wet (Optional) - Any examples you may have from previous feltmaking experiences, along with any tools/materials you may have (if any) - Pictures or sketches for design inspiration - A few buttons, threads, or other bits you might like to incorporate into your felt creations - Any wool that you want to try felting. The instructors will provide plenty of wool, but you may bring any that you have access to and want to try. Wool can be in roving, batts, or locks. * If bringing wool, be willing to test for "feltability," and/or contact one of the instructors. Instructor Materials: Several types of wool for various projects - Tools/materials, such as resist materials and needle-felting tools - Rattan mats - Containers for making pads and rugs - Handouts (in printed or PDF form) - Picture file and felt examples - Encouragement & inspiration!

Equipment Needs: Planned for Wet Room in Davidson Hall - Table with riser for each student, plus extra table for supplies - Chairs - Feltmaking supplies: tubs, washboards, etc. - Pool cover material for rolling (if available) - Spin dryer - Irons & ironing boards

No experience required, just a good amount of patience.

Tasha Miller Griffith works at the intersection of belonging, sustainability, and textile craft. She has been drawn to threads of all kinds since she was very small, and she is always trying to figure out what makes things work. In her classes, she strives to build a deep understanding of concepts through hands-on experimentation in a warm and inspiring environment. Tasha is the Education Director at Threaded Together, a nonprofit in her hometown of Flagstaff, AZ devoted to teaching textile arts skills. She also teaches nationally at folk schools and fiber arts events, and writes for magazines including Taproot and PLY. You can find her free tutorials on her website.

Becky Walker, a wool worker from way back, discovered feltmaking at the Folk School. An advocate of the folk process, she enjoys combining traditional techniques and innovative ideas, and she's become known for her container felting method. Becky is on the South Carolina Arts-in-Education roster of approved artists for feltmaking.
