Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Bead tool kits provided by the Folk School contain standard tools including didymium glasses. You may bring your own tools if desired (please label with your name or initials!). - Prescription safety glasses - Wear cotton clothing only, and closed-toe shoes - no sandals At the end of class students will have a chance to make art jewelry and gift items with beads made in class, extra materials available for a fee.
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $20 for gases torch & fuel for whole class, didyumim glasses for students
Instructor Materials: Marver pads, pliars, mashers, mandrels, bead release, bead removing tools, lighters & matches, variety of 104 C.O.E. Italian glass in opaque and transparent colors you'll choose from, Double Helix Silver Glass, cubic zirconia, dichroic glass, frit, foils, container to pack your creations in for the trip home, more...
Equipment Needs: Three big plastic bins from glass storage, plus stackable, individual kits of torch connections (1/student, plus instructor) - Folding stools (from storage building) - Sheet metal for tables (in studio now)

Explore C.O.E. 104 glass blown, hollow beads on a blowpipe and the effects created with different flames using reducing and striking, as well as other techniques including dichroic glass, cubic zirconia, and silver metals. Expect demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on assistance. Enjoy a range of options for creative expression and choose from a variety of opaque and transparent glasses. $

Terry Hale is the owner of Hale Fire Glass, a working studio and teaching facility in historic Lowe Mill in Huntsville, Alabama. She has been creating glass beads since 2003 and has taught at John C. Campbell Folk School since 2005. She also teaches at many venues in the southeast U.S. and the west coast of Ireland. Her original glass bead and sterling jewelry can be seen at fine art shows and several venues across the country.
