Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Personal apron (Students will get wet during the papermaking process, wearing rubber boots and a waterproof apron are optional but recommended.) - Rubber boots or waterproof, slip resistant shoes, (the studio floor will get wet and can be slick) - A notebook and pen for taking notes - OLD, USED cotton or linen fabric/scraps/cut up clothing; preferably WOVEN NOT KNITTED i.e., oxford shirt not t-shirt. (Knitted fibers are not ideal because they get tangled up in the beating process.) - X-Acto Knife - 3-5 yards of Pellon (Please look for the Pellon brand heavy weight stabilizer (50) or similar; make sure it is not the fusible type i.e. no glue) Instructor will bring embellishments but students may wish to bring their own as well: embedding materials - small pieces that are flatter than a nickel, such as ribbon, string, yarn, pressed dried flowers, plant fibers, decorative papers, bits of fabric, old drawing or print scraps for inclusions in paper on sculpture, etc. Low relief/flat items for embossing - fabrics, trims, generally soft items that will not break during pressing.

Sanaz Hagani is an interdisciplinary artist based in Athens, Georgia with a BFA in Graphic Design from Iran's Sooreh Art Institute and an MFA in Printmaking and Book Arts from the University of Georgia. She is a part time faculty member of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and also teaches at institutions such as Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Her work has been included in the Georgia Museum of Art's "Paper Routes: Women to Watch 2020" exhibit and the Albany Museum of Art, earning her recognition as one of five artists chosen by the Georgia Committee for the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She has been featured in publications such as Voyage Atl and The Hand Magazine and has been chosen for residencies at distinguished institutions such as Constellation Studio, Arrowmont School of Arts, and Buffalo Art Press.
