Student Materials: Please bring the following: -Water bottle -Closed-toe, leather work shoes -Cotton clothing; long pants/no cuff -Safety glasses* -Ear protection* (Optional) -Particulate respirator or N95 mask* -Leather apron & gloves -Sketchbook/notebook -Personal tools, if desired * The school has generic ear plugs and safety glasses available to borrow. However, you are encouraged to bring your own high-quality, well-fitting ear and eye protection. The Blacksmith Shop also sells safety glasses and N95 masks if needed.

Instructor Materials: -1084 high carbon tool steel for axe bits. - Hickory axe handles.

Learn the foundational blacksmithing skills necessary for creating a variety of axe styles–from the Viking era to early American tomahawks and axes–including design, hammer control, forge welding, heat treating, and more. Leave the week a sharper smith with an awesome axe. All levels welcome.

Cameron Plunkett received his BS in art in 2002. He has taken several blacksmithing classes at the Folk School, as well as bladesmithing courses with the American Bladesmith Society. Now a full-time blacksmith focusing on knives and tools, Cameron works from his home shop in Commerce, Texas.
