Blending Beauty–Enameling Plus Feltmaking

Week + Weekend. This class continues through October 25.

Embellish the matte surface of a wet felted carry-all bag you make yourself with a shiny enamel feature in this week plus weekend class. Start in the Enameling Studio to create several types of decorative closures using the limitless colors and techniques for enameling on copper. Then, move to the Wet Room Studio to nuno felt a color coordinated, large, carry-all complete with felted strap. All levels welcome.

Kay Patterson learned engraving and metalsmithing from her husband, Tom, whose family owned a retail jewelry store with a full-service shop. She joined Tom teaching metal classes at the Folk School in 2003 and has continued to serve as an assistant and instructor in many classes. Kay teaches enamel, combined with forging and engraving metal with a focus on using recycled metals. She is the Folk School's Creative Programming Advisor in Enameling. Kay currently divides her time among metals, enamel, and fiber, mostly making things to wear and puttering around the gardens and woods.

Geri Forkner creates woven and felted works of art from her studio in Tennessee. She studied weaving and fiber arts at Georgia State University, is a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, and is an internationally known artist and teacher to both children and adults. She cherishes the old traditions and skills while using fibers in innovative ways. Her creativity is contagious, and her students are always inspired to think outside the box.
