Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Closed-toe, leather work shoes - Cotton clothing; long pants/no cuff - Safety glasses* - Ear protection* - Leather apron & gloves (optional) - Water bottle - Personal tools, if desired * The school has generic ear plugs and safety glasses available. However, you are encouraged to bring your own high-quality, well-fitting ear and eye protection. The Folk School Craft Shop also sells high-quality safety glasses.

Description

This class is designed for coppersmiths and fine metal workers with little to no experience in a forge who want to expand their tool boxes and make their own tools for copper work. Grind and forge a customizable set of chisels and heat treat them while learning about the different tool steels that are available for copper work. Also, explore the use of a shot plate to help with making texture chisels. All levels welcome.

Bob Taylor began blacksmithing in 1985. Ten years later, he changed his focus to coppersmithing. He has demonstrated techniques at the Alabama Forge Council Conference and at local chapter meetings. He has also served as editor of "Bituminous Bits" and forgemaster of the local forge. Bob has taught throughout the Southeast and his work is held in private collections across the U.S. and abroad.
