Student Materials: Please bring the following: - One work towel - Work apron, if you want - Lidded container to carry home reclaim - Any clay tools you may already have, such as a needle tool, metal kidney rib, wooden rib, etc. (A basic clay tool set is available at the Folk School Craft Shop.) Please label personal tools with your name or initials. The Clay Studio is equipped with lots of donated tools & student tool kits are available to use for the week. - Wear closed-toe shoes for Raku firing, as well as long pants & long sleeves (cotton). Firing and glaze cost will be charged. These costs are included in the price the school charges for clay. Estimated 1-2 bags of clay per student Standard clay, glaze, firing Fee: $36 per bag Total estimated fee: $__56-92___
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL: $36-$72 Raku clay from Highwater (VERY IMPORTANT!) -Raku kilns - electric kilns - empty aluminium trash cans - welding gloves - pyrometer - tongs - newpaper (1’ stack at least)

Finish the week by bisque and raku firing your work and sharing in the amazement of what you accomplished in just one week.

Harry Hearne has been a full-time raku artist since 1990, creating exquisite work out of his own Turning Point Clay Studio. In addition to teaching classes there, he taught for five years at the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts and has conducted workshops at various colleges, universities, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and at the Folk School since 1995. Harry is credited as founder of the Folk School's "Mousetown."

Julie Hearne has been working in clay since 1999. She shows her work at nationally juried art festivals and is known for her indoor and outdoor stoneware sculpture and totems as well as her image transfer quote work. She is affiliated with Turning Point Clay Studio and has been teaching with Harry Hearne since 2005.
