Paul Wells has been working with bamboo rods for over 30 years. He began working with bamboo repairing and refurbishing his grandfather’s old rods. He continued working with old rods until he met master rod maker, Doug Hall, who taught him how to make rods from scratch. Paul has been an assistant instructor with Doug for several years and has a studio in his home where he builds custom rods for clients.

Mike Laughlin began building fly rods over 25 years ago and produces between 20 and 25 a year. While most of the rods he builds are graphite or fiberglass he also refurbishes old bamboo rods. A few years ago he learned the art of creating a bamboo rod from Doug Hall and Paul Wells and since then his love of building bamboo rods, and more importantly fishing with them, has grown steadily.
