Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Notebook & pencil or pen - approximately 3 yards of silk or rayon fabric (2-3 old skirts, shirts, kimonos) - rotary cutter with extra blades The studio has all the basic tools and supplies necessary. If you prefer to bring your own, you'll need the following (please label with your name or initials): - Scissors - Tape measure - Threading hook & sley hook - Boat shuttles & bobbins - Large-eye tapestry needle

School Fee & Materials: Please specify type of yarn or materials needed from the Folk School’s studio. -instructor will bring tencel yarn -no materials needed from the studio If you would like to utilize the JCCFS garden or collaborate with the gardener, please email [email protected] and [email protected].

Instructor Materials: - tencel warp thread, interfacing, and fusible bond - sari silk yarn - rag strippers - sewing machine Instructor materials fee: $25

Dating back to the 1700s, sakiori is a fabric woven from worn out garments that are torn into thin strips and woven tightly. Learn methods for preparing the rag strips, explore four-harness loom weaving techniques, and discover various methods to finish projects. All levels welcome.

JoEl Levy LoGiudice has been a fiber instructor at Florida Community College in Jacksonville, Appalachian Center for Craft, Tennessee Tech University, The Clearing Folk School, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and Vanderbilt University's Sarratt Student Center. She has taught weaving and fiber arts classes at the Folk School since 1987. In addition, JoEl has given numerous workshops throughout the southeast in beginning weaving, papermaking, basketry, surface design, and jewelry. Her textiles and mixed-media works have been exhibited nationally.
