Student Materials: Please bring the following: -Note taking supplies -Any tools or items that you feel comfortable with, especially “work” clothes -Optional: extra and additional fibers available for purchase, -Bring any silk, wool, alpaca, yak, llama, or other protein-based fibers you have on hand and would like to experiment with! Any form is acceptable - yarn, fabric, fleece (must be washed), roving, etc.
Instructor Materials: natural dyes -auxiliaries -fibers to dye
Equipment Needs: Pots, pans -heat and water source -Gardening clippers -Containers for picking plants in garden -String -Cheesecloth -Wet Room set up

Join in on an exciting week creating natural dyes from the garden and in the dye lab. Focus on protein fibers like silk and wool, learn the basics of natural dying, and/or expand your colorful textile practice on yarn, fabric, fleece, and more! Those with previous experience will have the opportunity to deepen their skillset; great for weavers, knitters, spinners, and sewists.

Lesley Darling hails from the Great Plains and her passion for fiber and folk life has led her on quite the journey! From herding with rare-breed sheep in Wales, learning a dying language whilst knitting with elders in Sweden, and traveling the country in search of fibers. In addition to growing and conscientiously foraging natural dyes, she practices off-road knitting, creates conceptual nature-based garments, and has been known to spin and weave. She teaches throughout the Midwest and Appalachia and loves to work with beginners and intermediate students with humor while sparking their curiosity for fiber and folk culture.
