Nam Joti Kaur Khalsa has been weaving since 2016. Rooted in the tradition of Appalachian broom making, her work blends time-honored techniques with a style uniquely her own. She creates both functional sweepers and ceremonial pieces—objects meant to be used, cherished, and remembered. Her hands are guided by the whispers of her ancestors and the imagery of her dreams. A lifelong herbalist, Nam Joti holds deep reverence for both the natural and supernatural worlds. Her creations are offerings—bridges between the seen and unseen, the everyday and the sacred. In addition to brooms, she weaves heirloom dolls and is currently exploring basketry with pine needles, willow, and invasive plants. Every piece is rooted in the rhythms of the Earth, honoring Old World traditions while speaking to the needs of modern life. Her work is Functional Folk Art—practical, poetic, and alive with spirit.
