Hawaiian Hula Dance

Whether you're brand new to hula or already have experience with this folk dance, all are welcome to join in a joyful weekend of movement, music, and meaning! Learn authentic dance style and technique from a masterful Hawaiian instructor including the fundamentals of Hula–basic steps, hand motions, and their cultural significance. Discover the storytelling behind the dance and practice and perform hula with live Hawaiian ukulele music (Hawaiian Ukulele class running concurrently.)

Marliss Kehaulani Brockington is honored to share her passion for Polynesian Folk Dance and Music with students at the Folk School! Because of her father’s native Hawaiian heritage, Marliss began dancing and performing Polynesian Dance in 1992 in San Diego, CA. Since then, she was privileged to learn many forms of Polynesian culture, language and dance from the islands of Hawai’i, New Zealand, Tahiti, the Cook Islands, Samoa and Tonga. She performed at the world-renown Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii, at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, and at the Makahiki Lu’au at SeaWorld Orlando. In 2011, she founded the Napua Polynesian Performers to pass on the tradition to children in her community. When she teaches them, she infuses a love of Polynesian dance and the Aloha Spirit. Marliss currently performs with Tuika’s Polynesian Magic in Fort Myers, Florida and Pittsburg, PA. Marliss has BS in Elementary Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.
