Student Materials: Please bring the following: -Wear cotton/natural fiber clothing and closed toe shoes -Work apron -Particle dust mask to wear while sifting enamels -Covered water bottle, no food or open drinks in the studio -The folk school has all the tools needed, but students are responsible for replacement cost of broken or lost tools. You may bring your own tools labeled with your name.
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $75-$200 Enamel studio has the enamels 36 gauge copper
Instructor Materials: Special tools for manipulating metal some enamels
Equipment Needs: hydraulic press, metal tools for marking, forming, kilns and mapp gas torches

Discover quilt patterns in metal and enamel. Decorate your home both inside and out with a waterproof, enamel quilt block. Using thin copper, manipulate the metal with innovative tools, corrugation, hydraulic press, tool embossing, and wire sewing. Enhance the surface with vibrant, colored glass enamel and assemble them in an "enamel mosaic" on a weatherproof backing, ready for display. Sizes can range from a small coaster to a barn quilt. Give free reign to your imagination! $

Steve Artz is a master carpenter by trade and has been an exhibiting enamelist since discovering the luscious medium while attending San Diego State University in 1975. He is well-known for his innovative approach to fusing glass to metal and inventive ways of texturing metal. Steve is a working member and past president of the San Diego Enamel Guild, past trustee of the Enamelist Society, and past president of Enamel Guild West. He has taught at the Folk School since 1998.
