Porcelain–Throwing & Altering

Discover techniques for combining throwing and altering components in your work as well as how to use hump and slump molds. Experiment with various approaches to shaping both the form and surface of freshly thrown vessels. Enhance your skills at your own speed and develop both style and concepts. Decorative techniques will include the use of colored slips, slip trailing, and carving. Bisque firing as time allows. Intermediate to advanced students welcome.

Leah Leitson was named Professor Emerita of Art in 2024. Leah is a ceramic artist and educator based in Asheville, NC. She received her M.F.A. in ceramics from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 1996 and her undergraduate B.F.A. in ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred, New York, in 1984. Leah completed residencies at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT, Banff Center for the Arts in Alberta, Canada, Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center, Skælskør, Denmark, and Artists Residency, Township 10, Marshall, NC. She is a member of the Piedmont Craftsmen, Inc., and the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Leah has led many workshops throughout the U.S., including Penland School of Crafts, Penland, NC, Arrowmont School of Crafts, Gatlinburg, TN, and has taught workshops in Italy and Israel.
