Student Materials: Please bring the following: -A sense of fun! A guitar or ukulele in good working condition if you have one. Instruments may be available to rent from the folk school. Instrument accessories - strap, capo, tuner, picks, etc. Your favorite dancing shoes. Pen, paper, recording device. Reusable water bottle and coffee mug.

Description

Immerse yourself in Spanish music, dance, and cuisine. Prepare regional delicacies, play Sevillanas on guitar and ukulele (all levels), and "try your hand" at palmas (clapping), castanets, and dancing Sevillanas. Prepare tapas and pintxos, Spanish tortilla (potato omelette), gazpacho, and delicious condiments, including romesco sauce sauce and pickled onions. Sip Manzanilla sherry and sangria while playing music during happy hours and celebrate the end of an amazing week with a paella party!

Daniel Ward has been involved in the vibrant New Mexico flamenco scene for over 30 years. Currently the Head of Guitar Studies at UNM and at the New Mexico School for the Arts, he delights in sharing his love of Spanish folk forms, and has pioneered transplanting Latin music to the 'ukulele. Miel Amarga, the flamenco performance group he and Anika Huggins founded, has delighted audiences since 2005. Heidi Swedberg, Daniel and Anika all currently live in New Mexico, and together they have created events combining cooking and music of the Southwest and Spain.
