Birding, Journaling & Block Printing

Spend the mornings birding in the idyllic forests and fields around the Folk School. Identify birds by their songs and watch for distinct behaviors that make each species unique. In the afternoons, practice nature journaling and learn the simple and satisfying craft of lino-block printing to create beautiful, bird-themed greeting cards. Join us for this nourishing week of crafting and nature immersion!

Topher Stephens is a Cullowhee, NC local with a background in biology, mindfulness, eco-psychology, and nature-based mentoring. With over 15 years as an outdoor educator, Topher brings an infectious passion and a deep reverence for the Earth into his teaching. He leads backpacking expeditions around the globe and teaches courses in birding, wildlife tracking, mindful nature connection, songwriting, crafts, and earth skills through his organization Wild Remembering.

Kayla Watson is a wilderness guide, professional facilitator, and nature-based educator. She but has spent most of her adult life guiding international service-learning programs for students. She recently settled in Western North Carolina where she tends her beautiful garden, makes sourdough and ferments, and co-leads classes in whittling, block printing, creative writing, and nature studies through Wild Remembering.
