Autumn Gourds (Long Weekend)

Gourd art has gone beyond birdhouses! Create colorful art on gourds using a variety of different shapes and sized gourds with summer and fall themes. Learn to use tools including small hand-held saws, rotary carvers, and wood burners. There is no end to what you can create on your gourd. Work with leather, stencils, 2-part epoxy, alcohol inks, leather dyes, acrylic paints, and more to complete your own color scheme. All levels welcome.

Donna McCarthy stumbled into the world of gourds over 15 years ago, finding a home there after having experimented with a variety of different art media throughout the years. Donna teaches classes at state and local patches, and has earned multiple best of show, judges choice and first place blue ribbons at the NC Mountain State Fair. Donna incorporates burning, carving and painting in different mediums into her gourd work. Teaching and instructing students who go home with a feeling of accomplishment is what Donna seeks to achieve in her classes.

Donna's husband, Donald Long, will join as co-instructor.
