Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Notebook & pen - Comfortable closed-toe shoes to protect your feet - hat/bandana and/or hair ties to keep hair out of food - food storage containers to take home any leftovers (if there are any!) - please bring your favorite knives from home (unless you're flying to the Folk School) - If you can't transport knives to class, don't worry. We have some in the studio.

Explore the skills of professional chefs and make creating meals at home more enjoyable! This class focuses on "sharpening" your skills with an essential cooking tool–the knife. Select the proper knife for the project, care for your knife (and your fingers!), and master the different cuts used most in the kitchen. Use your chopped/minced/julienned ingredients to make a variety of stocks, sauces, and soups. Also, experiment with flavor development for elevating your meals from good to great. $

Maria Marquez has been teaching culinary arts for over ten years and loves to showcase traditional Latin foods. She completed an associate's degree in culinary arts, a bachelor's in culinary management, and has also earned a master's in leadership. Maria is currently the director of the Culinary Arts program at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC.
