Student Materials: Please note these IMPORTANT ITEMS FOR YOUR SAFETY: - Wear closed-toe shoes only; no sandals or flip-flops. - No loose, flowing clothing. - Long hair must be tied back. - We recommend that you leave jewelry at home; no jewelry on hands/arms while turning. - Safety glasses &/or face shields are to be worn while turning. These are available at each turning station, or you may bring your own. - Dust masks are available in the studio -- or if you prefer, bring your own dust shield. - Ear plugs are also available in the studio -- or bring your own hearing protection of choice. TOOLS: * Each turning station has a PowerMatic 3520B lathe (3520C by class time), large/small chucks, and all necessary lathe equipment. Tool rolls are available and contain 9 tools: roughing gouge, 3/8" & 1/2" spindle/bowl gouges, scraper, parting tool, skew, and bedan. If you prefer, you may bring your own tools (labeled with your name or initials). These tools are recommended, but optional: - 1/2" bowl gouge, swept-back grind - 3/8" bowl gouge - 3/8" spindle gouge - Hollowing tools (any type you're comfortable with) ALSO BRING (also optional): - Carving tools (rotary carver, reciprocating carver, carving chisels) - Any tools that are giving you trouble ESTIMATED ADDITIONAL MATERIALS FEE: $75- $100 (may vary based on amount of wood used)
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $10 - Green wood - Acrylic paints & brushes - Sandblast media (ground glass preferred)
Instructor Materials: - Own tools and tools for students' use during class
Equipment Needs: Woodturning Studio - Air compressor with multiple fittings (for use with more than one air tool at a time) - Sand blaster (cabinet type), small is okay. - Trent Bosch Stabilizers - Trent Bosch Carving Stands - Foredoms for carving - Woodburners - TV

Practice good technique at the lathe to achieve consistent wall thickness and gain a better overall understanding of the turning process. Then, use these forms to practice techniques for carving and surface treatments, including sandblasting, burning, coloring, and texturing. Explore your areas of interest without the pressure to finish every piece. Students should have recent turning experience. $

Over the years, he has enjoyed many facets of this medium, from production woodturning to sculptural, one-of-a-kind pieces to demonstrating and teaching hands-on classes. More recently, he has devoted more time to developing, designing, and manufacturing unique tools for woodturners, as well as fostering the growth of his artistic children.
