Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Notebook and pencil/pen The studio has all the basic tools and supplies necessary. If you prefer to bring your own, you'll need the following (please label with your name or initials): - Scissors - Tape measure - Threading hook & sley hook - Boat shuttles & bobbins - Large-eye tapestry needle Students will use studio yarn.
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $45 Warp: Sport weight wool in a variety of colors (I like Nature's spun from Brown Sheep for beginners, but can be anything) - enough balls/cones that each student can be warping at the same time, 3/2 pearl cotton in a variety of colors Weft: A variety of yarn types, colors, sizes, etc to play with.
Equipment Needs: Each student will use a rigid heddle loom (with at least 10" of weaving width), 8 or 10 dent rigid heddle reed, warping peg, a threading hook, paper or cardboard for beaming, 2-3 stick shuttles, 1-2 pick-up sticks, a hemstitching needle, a cloth tape measure, scissors Shared equipment includes rotary cutter and mats, fringe twister

Explore ways to take plain weave to a new level and design patterns with pick-up, using warp floats to create a pattern. Experiment with finger-controlled techniques and finishing approaches. Weave a sample to explore the options, and then use your new skills to design and weave a project of your choice. Beginners welcome.

Sienna Bosch received her BFA in fiber art and art education from Colorado State University where she originally learned to weave. Her studio is currently in Boulder, CO where she creates weavings with hand-dyed yarn. She has published articles/projects in Little Looms, Schacht's online project collection, as well as the John C. Campbell Folk School blog. She works at Schacht Spindle Company (a manufacturer of high-quality looms and spinning wheels) where she is their Content Developer and Education Specialist. Sienna's role at Schacht is developing curriculum, teaching classes, making educational videos, editing weaving patterns and designs, testing products in product design, and more.
