Student Materials: - raincoat or poncho - be prepared for weather including cold/rain - notebook, writing utensil -comfortable shoes and good socks - Small day-pack - water bottle - hiking stick if you use one -personal plant and animal field guides, if you have some.*Luke likes Peterson’s Guide to Medicinal Plants Eastern addition(Guides are also available for purchase in the Folk School Craft Shop.) -any specific medications you may require (allergy meds, epi-pen, bee sting kit, etc.). We will have a basic first-aid kit. Also bring anything else you need for outdoor comfort -- hat, insect repellent, sunscreen, etc. (Optional)! -binoculars -hand lens -favorite knife -Hori hori knife or digging tool -pruners -camera -gathering bag or basket if you have one you prefer, also wax and small to medium paper bags *Need to be able to walk 1-2 miles over various terrains.
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $20 Forest Service Access per person. Will need vehicle access and lunches and will be going at least twice to the National Forest Service Land. Garden pruners, harvesting Opinel knives, Herb closet basics, plates, cups, baskets, cutlery, Lower Keith kitchen with stove, hot plates, fridge, sinks, herb press, cutting boards, also ice, cooler, dishes, funnels, nut cracker, all the herb closet and tool closet supplies. Paper bags, baskets, paper towels, cloth towels, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, dehydrators, buckets food grade. Van and basic tables and chairs plus access to campus trails and gardens, visit Forest service land twice.
Instructor Materials: Instructor fee: $50 (for all supplies for making things alcohol tinctures, plants, sugar, cornstarch, cooking materials). Will bring a Stove top still, bottles, jars, droppers, ingredients for tree class projects. Alcohol, oils, sugar, cornstarch, honey, Will work with witch hazel, evergreens, walnut, sassafras, and wild cherry bark. Two days of trips including visit to Apple Orchard
Equipment Needs: Kitchen space - Pots & pans - Folk School vehicle Would be awesome to get Andrew up with Carol Parks and Jason Ebinger about campus and trees. I have a Folk School treasure tree map inventory that would be great to update and nice to create a copy updated and well done for 100th anniversary with Andrew’s help. He is interested in coming down before November to check our campus and I can take him around the Folk School and he can stay at our house, maybe arrange some meals at Folk School.

Luke Dilbeck was raised in the hills and hollers of southern Appalachia, Luke's plant journey began following around his Mamaw and Aunt Joanne as they wandered the forest and fields gathering roots, bark, and berries to make herbal remedies for the folks in their community. Never letting go of his roots, Luke travelled around after college learning about cultures and plants before returning home to raise his family. He was a part of the inaugural class at Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine in Asheville because folks seem to like fancy papers of certification. For the last 10 years he and his wife, Mae have owned and operated The Folk Collaborative, an old school apothecary, orchard, farm, coffeehouse, and cafe in Mccaysville Ga. Luke's kind of a simple feller who really enjoys his time with his family, roaming the woods, and fishing whenever he can.
