Student Materials: Please bring the following: - basic sketching materials. - some of our work is very detailed—some might find magnification useful. - notebook and pen for taking notes Instructor will provide access to limited leather tooling equipment. Although it is not necessary, some students might want to have their own basic stamping tools instead of using class equipment.
School Fee & Materials: Everything that has been in the book/print studio over the past couple of years has been great. Some paper towels could be good.
Instructor Materials: Instructor will provide all materials, including leather, leather dyes, paper, and bookbinding thread. Additionally, instructor will bring many hand-tools, as well as embossing materials and adhesives.
Equipment Needs: Intaglio presses, awls and other basic handtools. Everything that has been in the book/print studio over the past couple of years has been great.

Create handsewn, leather-covered books featuring richly detailed, textured patterns of your own design. Cover traditional bookbinding skills, basic leatherwork (including beginning tooling and dyeing), and embossing techniques. Complete one or more handmade books that incorporate these skills. Open to all levels; work requires attention to detail and hand-eye coordination. $

Sara Dismukes is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator based in Montgomery, Alabama. She earned her MFA in Painting from East Carolina University, and has been a member of the Art/Design faculty at Troy University since 2006. Her studio work encompasses painting, drawing, digital media, and book arts.
