Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Prismacolor Color Pencils Set (prefer 132, 150) - Prismacolor #996 Black Grape. - May bring other professional brands: Polychromos, Luminance, Derwent, Holbein. - No Watercolor or Pastel Pencils, please! No Crayola, Prang, or student brands. - Graphite pencil H, HB or #2 pencil - White plastic eraser - Drafting brush or Swifter - White artists tape 1/2 " wide - Ruler / straight edge - Short-bristle stencil or stiff brush - Acrylic painting brush soft, round, small - Angled drawing surface or 9"x 12" clipboard or foam board - Pencil sharpeners (Electric /Battery) You will not enjoy working with a manual sharpener. - Battery eraser Sakura, Derwent, Helix (optional) - Table light (optional) Some are available in art room. -Any previous work you have done in colored pencil that you would like input. -Ideas to explore, enthusiasm and a stack of photo references that interest you.

Expand on the skills you developed in the class "Amazing Surfaces in Colored Pencil." Choose from the selection of subject matter and reference materials provided by your instructor. Use pencil techniques to explore textures and create compositional strategies. Tips, tricks, and shortcuts for successful colored pencil drawings included–layering, burnishing, grisaille techniques, instructor demonstrations, constructive critiques, and personal guidance. Intermediate levels welcome.

Jeffrey Smart Baisden graduated from Florida State University with a degree in art education. She developed a fine arts program and taught grades 9-12, Advanced Placement, and adult painting until 1992, when she decided to devote herself to drawing, exhibiting, and teaching full-time. Her work has been featured in twenty-four Colored Pencil Society of America International Exhibitions, receiving Awards of Excellence in 1996, 2001, 2007, 2016, and 2017. Her drawings are included in books ("The Best of Colored Pencil" 2, 3, and 4; and "Colored Pencil Explorations") and magazines ("American Artist," "The Artist's Magazine," and on the cover of "Art Calendar"). Jeffrey is a signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and an active member of the prestigious Florida Artists Group, the oldest professional art organization in Florida.
