Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Assorted black Micron pens. Bring several. - Bic ballpoint pen - medium and fine-point - 18" x 24" drawing pad - 80 or 100 lb. - Eraser -- soft, not hard The instructor will provide reference photos for your own specific project to draw. (If you decide to bring images to inquire about project suitability, please bring printed photos -- no computer-screen images.) The Folk School has drawing boards available for your use.
School Fee & Materials: Would be good if the Craft Shop could also carry black Micron pens. This class usually goes through about 10-20 (but students are also requested to bring them).
Instructor Materials: All books, pencils, handouts, reference materials
Equipment Needs: Painting Studio - Tables - Proper lighting - Blackboard (or dry-erase board with markers)

Alan R. Young is an award-winning artist who exhibits his birds of the Appalachians illustrations throughout the Southeast. He is considered one of the top wildlife and birding artists in the Southern Appalachians, often featured in regional publications. He teaches beginning and advanced drawing, and watercolor in dry brush throughout the region. Alan is also the creator of two arts festivals: North Georgia Wildlife Arts Festival in Blue Ridge, GA (2000-2010) and the Sautée Nacoochee Arts Festival (2014-present).
