Create letters embellished with buds, blossoms, leaves, and berries to use as monograms, initials, or stand-alone compositions. Take inspiration from traditional Medieval and Renaissance manuscript border designs and use water-based media to add color and enrichment. No experience in calligraphy or drawing is required. Beginners explore new tools and media while advanced students are challenged to expand design skills.

Sharon Coogle found the perfect melding of her passion for literature with her ardor for visual art in calligraphy. Enjoying the technical challenges of hand lettering and the creative opportunities of literate design, she followed calligraphy into the related fields of gilding, book making, miniature painting, and paper arts, and uses these disciplines in lively combination. Her work has been presented to luminaries around the globe.
