Student Materials: Please bring the following: - If you have your own antlers, you may bring them for instruction on how to prep & drill them for additional baskets. - If you have beads or decor items for your basket, you may bring them. - Although not necessary, if you have any weaving materials you specifically wish to incorporate into your design, feel free to bring them. - The studio has basketry tool kits, but if you have your own tools you prefer to use, feel free to bring them (label with your name or initials). - Hand cream or balm, if your hands dry out easily.

Description

Nature and artist collaborate, combining the beauty of naturally shed deer antlers with artisan, rib-style basket weaving. Create fanciful and functional Appalachian antler baskets and explore various drilling techniques and sculptural forms. Students will be encouraged to create their own woven antler pieces using a variety of organic colors and natural materials including vines, cordage, reeds, grasses, and fiber. All levels welcome. $

Max Hendry is a full-time instructor and artisan of historic handcraft, specializing in brooms and basketry, with a focus on using natural materials. With over 40 years of experience as a professional teacher of fine and performing arts in private, public, and magnet schools, Mark travels across the country, teaching all levels of students from age three to ninety-three. He is currently director and resident artist for Mountain Heritage Handcraft in Blue Ridge, GA.
