Student Materials: Please bring the following: -Spinning wheel in good working order (if you have one) or hand spindle. -Extra bobbin or two. Knitting Materials: -24” and 32” circular US #4 or 5 -stitch markers -scissors -pen or pencil for notes. *Instructor will bring laceweight Icelandic yarn in your choice of colors. *Our studio is well equipped with wheels, hand cards, and other tools needed.  Feel free to call CPA, Martha Owen, at 828-361-7535 or email at [email protected] to find out about specific kinds of wheels available.

Description

Explore the versatile, multicolored, dual-coated fleece of Icelandic sheep! Prepare fleece with carders, combs, and fingers then spin with a hand spindle or wheel. Play with separated and combined coats–tog and thel–to achieve a variety of yarns. Also, learn about the Icelandic lace shawl knitting tradition. Knit a sample-sized triangular shawl using natural shades of Icelandic laceweight–einband–to learn the unique construction method, cast on, lace stitches, edging. and blocking.

Donna currently produces designs for Harrisville Designs and other publications. She started her own company to promote folk knitting, Tree of Life Designs. She is also an accomplished spinner.
