Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Apron - Rubber gloves (long, kitchen type) - Old clothes and shoes that you don't mind being blue - PFD (Prepared for Dyeing) fabric or scarves. This is available from sources such as Maiwa, Dharma Trading Company, and also from the instructor, for purchase in class. - Items that you might want to dye. (Must be made of natural fibers, not synthetic. Scoured if necessary.) - Thimble, if you use one
School Fee & Materials: Aprons & rubber gloves, for those who don't bring - Old towels
Instructor Materials: Everything to make and maintain the indigo vats - All items necessary to do All of the techniques learned in class: clamps, poles, rope, string, needles, threads, etc. - Silk scarves and PFD yardage for student purchase

Experiment with all aspects of shibori–including itajime and arashi–as well as some very fun and unusual ways of creating pattern resists with indigo. Set and use all-natural indigo vats with no harmful chemicals and explore the use of stitch resist to make beautiful designs. Also, discover how to keep your whites very white and crisp and how to finish your fabrics. All levels welcome.

Debbie Maddy has almost 40 years experience in quilting -- 19 years as a pattern designer and 20 as an international instructor/lecturer. She is now a fabric designer with Moda Fabrics and has multiple lines of fabric being printed from her hand-dyed shibori samples. She studied the art of shibori and indigo dyeing from notable artists in the U.S., England and Japan. Debbie has been featured on national television and online classes.
