Student Materials: Please bring the following: -Wear cotton/natural fiber clothing and closed toe shoes -Work apron -Particle dust mask to wear while sifting enamels -Covered water bottle, no food or open drinks in the studio -The folk school has all the tools needed, but students are responsible for replacement cost of broken or lost tools. You may bring your own tools labeled with your name. -Dark glasses, preferably green tinted - fairly fine paint brushes
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $20-$40, depending on size and quantity of pieces, if using our enamels and copper
Instructor Materials: About 45 transparent powdered enamels already in small containers, ready to use. We all share these. acrylic and watercolor enamels many back up items mason stains many graphite related items and underglaze pencils diamond hand pads ($10 student fee for use of these materials)
Equipment Needs: warming tray to set enamels on for quick drying 9" tripods, 2-3 2 flex shafts tomato cans, 28 oz., one for each tripod set up, buy cheap store brand without teflon liner. They must be pre fired outdoors or wait for Anne and we'll do it together. Heavy 12 inch screen, enough for every firing station Trivets 2 locking tweezers or one long nose pliers for each staion liquid enamel 533, 8 oz. 1045, 2030, counter enamel, 1305 PF-1 painting flux A-13 water base dental spatulas Klyr fire A-1 sifters-40,80,150 mesh cream etchall 16 oz. plastic forks and spoons one metal spoon 3 plastic containers with lids, about 6"x6"x1', can't be smaller 12 plastic or glass containers, 4"-6" tall 6 plastic containers, 2"x2"x2" baking soda cleanser nitrile gloves shallow basin, about 15"x10"x5" alundum stone 150 grit wood forming tools hammers and mallets and one planishing saw blades, 4/0 drills, mostly 50-69 copper sheet, 22 and 20 gauge. Should have 6x6 piece of each sharp tools for scratching, dental tools graphite pencils, HB, 2B Dixon Ticonderoga is fine staedtler eraser- the white one bench blocks/anvils vise masking tape water jars for cleaning brushes, eye droppers, pennies, sharpies

Try various methods of creating line and imagery on your enamel pieces using a torch or a kiln. Apply successive layers of liquid, painting, transparent, and opaque sifting enamels then explore techniques such as sgraffito, graphite, sifting, fire scale, acid etching, and painting (Limoges) using Thompson products as well as mason stains. Additionally, under/maturity and over firing will build and preserve drawings and layers in the final piece. No matter your skill level, there will be the oppo

Anne Havel is an independent studio artist for over 20 years, teaching workshops and exhibiting in juried exhibitions. Work is included in the permanent collections of: Philadelphia Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, Arkansas Museum of Fine Art, the Crocker Art Museum,University of Arkansas, Little Rock Department of Art and Design Permanent Art Collection, the Enamel Arts Foundation, and numerous private collections. Service is a critical part of her journey; she is a reformed CPA. Anne likes to state it as: " I now use my powers for good" and has served as treasurer for a number of boards of directors over the last 15 years.
