Please label personal tools with your name or initials. - 2-3 work towels - Work apron, if desired, or clothes you can get dirty - Dust mask - Packing material & boxes to transport your pieces home - Container to carry home scrap clay - Water bottle

Dive into foundational skills catered to meet you where you are on your pottery journey. Skills covered include wedging, throwing, trimming, decoration basics and attachment, altering, firing, and glazing. Focus on techniques and concepts learned from China and Japan fused with Western sensibilities and stylings, as well as conversations surrounding the history and culture of clay. For absolute beginners and intermediate wheel throwers.

Maggie Connolly is the first American to graduate with an MFA in ceramic design from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. She then graduated with a Ph.D. in studio ceramics from Tokyo University of the Fine Arts. Maggie became an Artist in Residence at Arrowmont in 2019-2020. She currently lives and works in Knoxville, TN, with a focus on teaching wood fire ceramics.
 
Eric Sherwood is a multimedia artist with disparate styles and wide ranging interests, a mixed race artist hailing from Knoxville, TN. He was born to an engineer father, and a refugee mother, he spent much of his childhood finding half of his homeland overseas, coloring his understanding of the world and life itself through a practice of American individualism and Chinese traditionalism. He has worked in clay extensively for the last 12 years, in its realm, he has focused on foundation and technique, using the basics as a means to understand clay on a deep, personal level. Through this he is always looking for ways to connect to students at all levels, pushing them to work with as little tools as possible to find their unique conversation with clay
and their own creativity.
