Student Materials: Please bring the following: -A magnifying device, such as an OptiVISOR or reading glasses, may be helpful for detail work. OptiVISORs are also available in the studio, if needed. -Safety glasses. (If you wear glasses, try 3M Eyeglass Protectors, #47030, that fit comfortably over glasses -- available at building-supply stores.) Safety glasses are also available in the studio, if needed. -Ear plugs are available in the craft shop for a small fee should you need them. -Notebook and pen -Something to tie your hair back with, if applicable -Apron or old clothes, recommended -Non-flammable clothing and close-toed shoes, recommended NOTE: The fluctuating cost of metals used in this class may result in changes to the estimated materials fees at the time the class is run.
School Fee & Materials: MATERIALS - Paper towels - Flux - Solder - Saw blades - Pickle pots - Liver of sulfur - Sandpaper
Instructor Materials: metal and stones, sharpies, towels, and the proper dust masks for the students

Explore jewelry making fundamentals such as soldering, forming, texturing, and setting cabochon stones. Through demonstrations and project making, learn foundational skills for working with copper, brass, and sterling silver while creating your one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. All new metalsmiths welcome as well as those of you looking to refresh your bench skills! Good eyesight, magnification, and some hand-strength necessary. $

An Atlanta native, Kristin Wilder has found joy in a myriad of arts including photography, knitting, dyeing, gardening, and sewing. However, her focus and love has always been metalsmithing. Kristin graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art. She began taking jewelry and metalsmithing classes over 30 years ago and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Georgia State University. Kristin began teaching classes and workshops to teens and adults in 2017 in Dunwoody, Ga. Currently, Kristin teaches workshops and classes near her home in the North Carolina mountains and in Atlanta Georgia.
