Student Materials: 'Please bring the following IMPORTANT ITEMS FOR YOUR SAFETY: - Wear closed-toe shoes only. - No loose, flowing clothing. - Long hair must be tied back. - We recommend that you leave jewelry at home; no jewelry on hands/arms while turning. - Face shields are to be worn while turning. These are available at each turning station, or you may bring your own. - Dust masks are available in the studio -- or if you prefer, bring your own dust shield. - Ear plugs are also available in the studio -- or bring your own hearing protection of choice. TOOLS: * Each turning station has a PowerMatic 3520C lathe, large/small chucks, and all necessary lathe equipment. Tool rolls are available and contain 9 tools: roughing gouge, 3/8" & 1/2" spindle/bowl gouges, scraper, parting tool, skew, and bedan. If you prefer, you may bring your own. Burnin’ love is the perfect marriage between woodturning and pyrography–woodburning. Turn a wide rimmed bowl, heart-shaped platter, and sushi platter. Then add pyrography to take your pieces to the next level. Drawing skills are not necessary; you will learn to transfer patterns. All levels welcome. $

Michele Parsons is a professional pyrography and woodcarving artist. She is also an author of the "Quick-Start Woodburning Guide" and "Leather Pyrography" books. She is a frequent contributor to Pyrography Magazine and Woodcarving Illustrated Magazine. Michele has taught pyrography classes to thousands of students over the last 18 years, including at the International Woodcarving Congress, the Southeastern Woodcarving School, and the American Woodcarving School. Michele’s interest in leather pyrography evolved into her developing and teaching leathercraft skills.

Scarlette Rouse lives and farms in Seven Springs, NC and has been woodturning since 2007. She loves teaching beginning woodturning and helping students feel comfortable at the lathe. Scarlette has taught and been an assistant instructor for several years. She has demonstrated for clubs as well as the North Carolina Woodturning Symposium.
