Student Materials: Please bring the following: BASIC SUPPLIES: - Personal sewing machine in good working order, plus bobbins, extra needles, feet, attachments, and owner's manual (if you have it). The school has machines*, but you would be much more comfortable using your own, if you can transport it. - Paper and fabric scissors, big and small. - Straight pins (STRONG). - Applique pins. - Thimble, if you use one. COSTUMING: - Fabrics for costuming - such as silks, rayons, thin cottons, gauzes, sheer fabrics, etc. Small pieces (fat quarters or left over pieces) are usually enough to do most garments. - Good thread** to match fabrics. - Yarns for hair - specialty yarns are great to mix in with basic yarns to make fantasy figures. - Beads, buttons, ribbons and narrow trims * The Folk School has JUKI QVP2000s, Pfaff Tiptronic 2040s, one Pfaff Expression 3000, one Baby Lock Quilters Choice, one Singer Simple 3116, and one simple White machine. ** If you plan to use a school machine, please bring good-quality thread (Auriful, Mettler, Robison-Anton, YLI, or Isacord), as they produce less lint to clog up the bobbin assembly. Coats & Clark or Gutermann threads cannot be used on our machines. If you need special colors, there are quilt shops in nearby towns of Murphy, Hayesville, and Blairsville. ESTIMATED ADDITIONAL MATERIALS FEE: $20 - $30 for supplies provided by the instructor (body/flesh fabrics for "human" dolls, fiberfill, and small selection of clothing fabrics (including felt and knits as well as embellishments. Students will also have the use of shared watercolor pencils, pens, and other tools.)
School Fee & Materials: - Access to Weaving studio yarn closet for yarn, if needed. - Needles.
Instructor Materials: - Body/flesh fabrics for "human" dolls - Fiberfill stuffing - Yarns for hair - Pens, pencils - Tools such as hemostats - Tube/rods and wooden bases for any standing dolls - Wire for limited armature - A small selection of fabrics that can be used for clothing, including felt and knit fabrics. - Some buttons, beads and trims to choose from - Thread - Hand sewing needles
Equipment Needs: Quilting Studio - Sewing machines - Irons & ironing boards (1 per 3 students) - Chalk or dry-erase board (with chalk or markers)

Let your unique style shine through as you create your own doll design. Needle sculpt faces, make a body to match its personality and finish with choosing how to dress your final figure. Your imagination is the limit! Figures can be old or young, standing or sitting, flying, or even a swimming mermaid. All levels welcome; basic hand-stitching and machine sewing skills required.

Charlie Patricolo is primarily a cloth dollmaker. As a member of Southern Highland Craft Guild she shows dolls at a variety of galleries and shows. Teaching is a very important part of keeping the energy alive and new. Besides creating dolls, Charlie has developed a love of Italian cooking after being married to a first generation Italian and learning techniques and recipes at home and in Naples, Italy in the kitchens of the family.
