Student Materials: Please bring the following: TUBE WATERCOLORS (Bring professional quality tube paints . I use Da Vinci and Holbein and others) - Aureolin yellow and Lemon yellow and Quinacridone gold - Burnt sienna and Brown madder - Quinacridone permanent rose or Alizarin crimson - Quinacridone red - Opera ( by Holbein) - Ultramarine blue and Cobalt blue and Cerulean blue and Antwerp blue (Winsor & Newton) - Payne's gray - Veridian, Hooker's green and Sap green BRUSHES: - A large wash brush, like a 1-1/2" flat - #3 or #5 rigger brush - #6 round sable (Number 6 round brush does not need to be an expensive sable brush) - #10 round is nice as well - 1/2" flat -- buy a good one, if possible - Fan brush (optional) - Cat's tongue brush -- highly recommended, and very desirable - Set of Fritch Scrubbers - Toothbrush for spattering - OTHER ITEMS: - Doc Martins bleed proof white ink - Watercolor palette, get a large nice one with a lid (This is a nice option: https://www.cheapjoes.com/mijello-fusion-series-watercolor-palettes.html) - Mat knife (Optional) - Masking tape - Masking fluid - Toothpicks - Natural sponges - Paper towels (Viva preferred) - Watercolor sketch pad - #2 pencils - Kneaded eraser - iPhone or camera so that you may record our landscapes to take back to the studio

Description

Experience the wonders of layering cool and warm transparent colors to paint a winter landscape. Step-by-step as a class, and then on your own, infuse one color into another to create beautiful shadows in the snow and blend forest greens to sprinkle the landscape with deciduous and evergreen trees. Also, work on saving the white of the paper, creating value studies, and experimenting with adding texture. All levels welcome.

Suzanne DesLauriers has been a working artist for over thirty years. She was the 1996 Western North Carolina Creative Teacher of the Year and the 1999-2000 North Carolina Secondary Art Teacher of the Year. Suzy is a signature member of the Southern Appalachian Artists Guild as well as a member of the Southern Watercolor Society and the Southeastern Pastel Society. She has taught and exhibited her work in the Carolinas, Maine, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. She believes in unlocking the artist within each of us.
