Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Natural Hog hair and Sable natural hair brushes in these sizes for oil painting: • Rounds, size 4, 6, 8 • Filberts, size 4,6, 8 • Flats, size 4, 6, 8 • 1 sable fan brush • small trowel shaped palette knife (for color mixing • Palette (either wood or paper disposable palette • Metal pallet cups with lids (2) for mediums. (No plastic). • Notebook/sketch pad. EASELS ARE PROVIDED for both indoor and outdoor painting. Brush cleaning station will be provided. Do Not bring solvents. Basic paint colors: Please notice there are not any 'tube' green, violet, nor orange. Use rich violet reds, siennas, and Naples yellows to their fullest potential as you paint in studio and plein air using the traditional oils, grounds, and mediums employed by the masters. Paint on specially-prepared panels for vibrant colors and expression. Prior experience recommended.

John Mac Kah is a freelance painter and illustrator whose work includes landscape painting, wildlife, and natural history subjects. A graduate of Ringling College of Art and Design with a BFA in painting, he has been teaching people of all ages for 45 years-with over 30 years at the Folk School. John currently instructs drawing and still life and landscape painting in his studio in the River Arts District of Asheville. His work is in private and corporate collections in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Europe and in galleries in Florida and North Carolina.
