Seatweaving on Four Rails

Explore an assortment of materials and techniques and/or hone your skills in specific areas. Weave rush with pretwisted cords, map patterns with splint reed or Shaker tape and experience the beauty of Danish cord in a variety of methods. Common post-and-rung structural issues will be addressed also. Beginning to advanced students welcome. This class is physically demanding; students must be comfortable with strenuous work and be able to stand for hours at a time and turn the chair over repeatedly. $

Dave Klingler is a process obsessed, spreadsheet-nerd and co-owner of Silver River Center for Chair Caning. His youth was filled with nailing boards together in his grandfather’s woodshop and attempting to understand the universe via Legos. A love of patterns and design found him pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree. A post-graduation, soul-searching move to Folly Beach, SC brought him into contact with Brandy Clements, fresh from Chair Caning Boot-camp with her Aunt Linda. The past 15 years has been the most amazing, chair-centric journey he never could have imagined: a constant parade of teaching opportunities, history lessons, restorations, public demonstrations, conferences, classes, articles and too much chair-related fun to properly convey.
