Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Set of basic clay-working tools (available at pottery supply companies). Please label personal tools with your name or initials. The Clay studio is equipped with lots of donated tools and student tool kits are available to use for the week. - 2-3 work towels - Work apron, if desired, or clothes you can get dirty - Particulate dust mask - Packing material to transport your pieces home -Container to carry home scrap clay - Water bottle -Old chopsticks or small wood scraps -Scoring tool -Fettling Knife -Smooth metal rib -Variety of brushes -Small slip containers -Pallette -Heat gun (the clay studio has 3)
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $107-$147 -Mudtools paisley rib SSP24 -Mudtools long scraper stainless rib SSL18 Having access to a variety of speedball or amaco underglazes would be fantastic if the studio allows. Specifically: Amaco: -V390 bright orange -V391 intense yellow Speedball (if it's cheaper to do the deluxe school pack, that would be fine-just need to add either speedball cream or v-301 amaco ivory): -Pink -Red -Cream -White -Black -Sky Blue
Instructor Materials: Optional tool kit: The kit total is 79.50 and includes a green wire, fine paisley rib, medium long kidney, custom do all, and 7/9 fang.
Equipment Needs: -Banding wheels - in terms of banding wheel, I recommend the Nidec Shimpo banding wheel 9 ⅞” x 7 ½” for sculpting, but any will work as long as they’re sturdy enough to hold 15-20# of clay -several kilns to bisk in -drying room / hot box, box -Box fans -ware boards -Porcelain slip (or could make white slip) -Sodium silicate -Grog

Michael Bridges is a potter, sculptor, bread baker, and musician. He was born in Northport, Alabama, graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and currently lives on the North Side of the city. His work has been described as “XXX” His unique style blurs the lines between form and function in an expressive manner with enough fine detail to pull you into the piece and keep rewarding with every use.
