Student Materials: Please bring the following: -Wear cotton/natural fiber clothing and closed toe shoes -Work apron -Particle dust mask to wear while sifting enamels -Covered water bottle, no food or open drinks in the studio -The folk school has all the tools needed, but students are responsible for replacement cost of broken or lost tools. You may bring your own tools labeled with your name. -Dark glasses, preferably green tinted, though the school has these too to use

Description

Try a different approach to "cooking" with enamel on metal. Manipulate thin copper using innovative tools and techniques to impart interesting textures. Then, fuse layers of eye-popping glass enamel colors to the metal. Cooking methods range from flame kissing with a hand held torch up to 3200 degrees to slow roasting in a 1500 degree oven (electric kiln.) Your creative discoveries will be served up in a custom handmade book! All levels of "cooks" are welcome. $

Steve Artz is a master carpenter by trade and has been an exhibiting enamelist since discovering the luscious medium while attending San Diego State University in 1975. He is well-known for his innovative approach to fusing glass to metal and inventive ways of texturing metal. Steve is a working member and past president of the San Diego Enamel Guild, past trustee of the Enamelist Society, and past president of Enamel Guild West. He has taught at the Folk School since 1998.
