Spinning the Spectrum–Limitless Color!

Don’t be limited by the colors you can buy! Dye your own base colors to blend in different proportions to create subtle variations. Learn to dye solids, using hand and drum carding and other ways to create gradient rovings. Experiment with yarn structure (plies, marling, chain plying, etc.). Understand considerations for dyeing, blending, and spinning for specific projects so you can design and spin exactly the yarn you want. Intermediate levels welcome; must be able to spin a single and a simple ply.

Margaret Radcliffe learned to knit as a child and has been designing handknits all her adult life. She is the author of "The Knitting Answer Book," "The Essential Guide to Color Knitting Techniques," "Circular Knitting Workshop," and "The Knowledgeable Knitter." Since 1991, Margaret has taught everything from beginning knitting to garment design, with an emphasis on helping all knitters to become independent and creative. Her current fiber interest is preparing, spinning, and designing with rare heritage breed wools. Margaret holds a BA in medieval studies and an MA in English literature, and has been an information systems auditor, computer programmer, business executive, research administrator, dancer, and editor.
